Hantavirus has claimed the lives of 2 cruise ship passengers and has infected others aboard the Dutch ship MV Hondius. It had set out from Argentina to the Canary Islands on a bird watching excursion, with passengers unwittingly spreading it by leaving the ship at times to explore. They are now being quarantined, and while the World Health Organization is claiming this isn't the start of a pandemic, the virus did jump from human to human when it is supposed to just be spread by rats. While I do sympathize with those isolating on the ship, it's unfortunately necessary to prevent the sort of potential catastrophe we are all too familiar with.
