Great Lakes Basin Transportation is proposing a railroad line which would cut through La Porte as well as Porter and Lake Counties, much to the concern of local residents. Meetings with the public and analysis of the route is currently taking place. Rerouting or even abandoning the project are very real possibilities, seeing that there are many public concerns about the railroad line running through their properties, disrupting the day to day flow of life, not to mention peace and quiet, and the environment. Our county is already one of the most polluted in the state, thanks to our proximity to Chicago.
