"SAYING THE 'T' WORD"

 12/30/15 The News-Dispatch & The Herald-Argus

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and his caucus are proposing what critics view as an undesirable tax hike on gasoline and cigarettes to establish long-term funding to repair Indiana's roads and bridges. Included in the proposal is a plan to convert I-60 and I-70 into toll roads. Governor Mike Pence and others in the Indiana legislature, both Republicans and Democrats, are more interested in short-term solutions that do not involve raising taxes. Personally, I think that making smokers pay more for cigarettes is a good idea, as it provides greater incentive for people to quit. On the other hand, I can't say I am thrilled with the idea of paying more for gas, even with the amazingly cheap fuel prices we've seen lately.
