"FORTY-SEVEN PERCENTERS"

10/9/12 The News-Dispatch & 10/10 The Herald-Argus

Outside of President Obama's lackluster performance, the biggest news out of the first debate was that Mitt Romney wants to end government subsidies of PBS, despite the fact its funding accounts for a fraction of a percent of the federal budget. Is it really about the supposed cost-savings of defunding it? I'd say Romney is in denial of the fact that left to its own, commercial programming abandons responsible, educational and cultural shows in favor of mindless violence, smut, and "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo?"  "Corporations are people" in Romney's opinion. The problem is that these "people" choose to deprive viewers of useful, intelligent programming for the sake of the Almighty Dollar.  It would be irresponsible of government not to step up to the plate to help make sure that educational tv continues to exist, if not for the sake of our culture not going completely to hell.
