"HEROISM OF THE SUPER PACS"

5/22/12 The News-Dispatch & The Herald-Argus

Thanks to the aggregious Supreme Court ruling, "Citizens United," campaign finance reform is essentially dead. As a result, political action committees funded by individuals, corporations and unions may engage in unlimited political spending so long as they did not directly contribute to candidates or parties. These came to be known as "Super Pacs."

Pro-Romney Super Pacs have indicated they wish to dredge up Rev. Jeremiah Wright's anti-Americanism. Romney himself is opposed to revisiting the issue, as it has become tiresome to all except the most diehard Obama-haters. Obama's Super Pacs have responded with threats to run ads about historical racial discrimination in Mormonism. The efforts of both camps appear to be sideshows and distractions from real issues.
