"MORE COMPASSIONATE CONSERVATISM"

7/29/09 The News-Dispatch

The #1 issue in regards to health care for me is there being universal coverage - I really don't care if those who offer it are private companies or the government - so long as there is access for everyone. Many people have been unemployed for so long that they, or even worse, their children, are pretty much left for dead. It is inhumane to insist that raising taxes is a greater outrage than leaving the sick to choose between death and bankruptcy-period. In some countries, the government mandates coverage for everyone and subsidizes private insurance for the needy- that way everybody's happy. Oddly enough, even that concept involves too much sacrifice for some quarters. Heaven forbid the U.S. catches up in terms of access and life expectancy to Canada, the UK or the rest of the developed world.
