"SHOWDOWN AT THE STATE HOUSE"

4/25/09 The News-Dispatch

Recently the Indiana legislature allocated funding for certain programs which the governor is now threatening to withhold funds for, in order to balance the state's budget. In these unusual times, when states like California are going bankrupt, I'd have to agree with Mitch that now, if ever, the state's budget should not have a high price tag. Now is not the time for our state to go on a spending spree, seeing there has been a dramatic increase in federal spending lately in response to the recession. Personally, I support spending taxpayer money on jumpstarting the economy by promoting industries like high-speed rails that have a future, for example, but I do resent the government spending our money to bail out failing banks and automakers.
