"READ THE FINE PRINT"

2/28/07 The News-Dispatch

This proposal also sought to discriminate against unmarried couples in the fine print. I don't know about you, but I feel secure enough in my own heterosexual marriage, that if a lot of legal rights were given to gays, it would not suddenly turn me gay or ruin my marriage. To the religious right I say, "Thou protesteth too much" - often the biggest homophobes are deeply in the closet themselves. Just look at Ted Haggard or former senator Craig. Now that doesn't mean churches don't have the right to refuse to perform gay ceremonies - they should be able to define marriage as they interpret God's will; but from the government's perspective, gays should have certain legal rights like hospital visits, inheritance, etc.
